The St. Cecilia Track team has been set as a Class C team for 2005. Last year, STC competed in Class B, making us the smallest B team in the state. This year we will be one of the largest Class C teams in the State.

We’re loaded with talent, so I’m excited to see what we’ll do as the season comes. Many STC athletes have been training in the Preseason, if not already playing Basketball. This dedication can only mean good things.

I ran the Omaha Corporate Cup run. It was great weather, it was a 10k (6.2 mile) race. I started in the unseeded section of the race, next year I’ll get my seeded pass for the race. I ran a 39:34, I was hoping for atleast 2 minutes faster, but this is a good mark to start with.

Both St. Cecilia’s Boys Cross Country team placed third at the Fillmore Central Invite. This is a very large meet that brings some of the top teams in the state. Derek Sekora led the team with a 6th place finish. Zach Dubas (14th), Brian Neilson (17th) and Brandon Boesh (20th) were very close behind. You will notice that there is only 42 seconds between our top 4 runners, this is a great point considering all of our scoring runners where in the top 20 of the meet.

STC XC has started the season with a bang. The Boys team won the Superior Invite and the Hastings Triangular meet. We’ve seen some impressive times, the gap between our top runners time is very small. It is going to be really tough breaking up our group and score less than the STC boys.

The Girls team placed 2nd in the Superior meet after Fairbury, who ran an impressive race as a team. We won the Hastings Triangular. Our top two runners are tough, they will be difficult to beat. Our next 3 runners are doing very well, running very strong times, keeping our scores low. In particular, I see Jenna Williams making a huge difference this season.

We have been noticed, you can see that both teams are high in the cross country rankings. Our next race at Filmore Central will be a much better test of our abilities, there will be many great teams there for us to prove our talent.

Brian Nielsen brought the Preseason Cross Country rankings to my attention, http://www.angelfire.com/ne/huskertrackmag/updates.html. It’s mostly guesswork, so you can’t put a lot of stock in the first few weeks. But you will notice that they are unaware of STC this year. I personally know that our team is one of the strongest Class C teams in the state, it is going to be a very fun being so unexpected and showing everyone how talented were are.

Our first meet is coming up Thursday, September 2nd. We’ll be leaving to the Superior, Ne Golf Course. The first race will start at 4:45pm. I’m excited, because our athletes are prepared, strong and ready.

The 2004 Cross Country season has begun for St. Cecilia. We are looking forward to one of the best years yet. This is the largest team at St. Cecilia, yet, with 42 athletes. Our athletes have logged a good amount of miles over the summer, some of them even approaching 450 miles in the last 3 months.

St. Cecilia boys and girls did a great job at Holdredge, Ne for the Class B-5 districts. There may be a few additional athletes that will qualify (boys / girls), but so far we’ve had an impressive number of qualifications against an extremely good district and larger class.

St. Cecilia is usually a Class C school, and in Class C we could have qualified most of our runners. For anyone interested this would’ve been our district in a normal year, view results. The good news is that we will most likely be Class C next year and we lose very few seniors.
